Piano Lessons

I am a piano teacher in the Sarasota area and offer private lessons in homes in the Sarasota – Lakewood Ranch areas.  I also offer lessons on Zoom and Facetime.

All ages and levels  are welcome, from 5 year old beginners to adults.  I offer traditional European technique and literature, Jazz piano, theory and ear training, improvisation and Popular/Rock.  I help the student understand interpretation and make music come alive, and teach the practice techniques used by professionals for hundreds of years to maximize  learning efficiency.  Practicing is where the student spends the most time and effort, and this system guarantees results for children and adults.  Rather than reinforcing mistakes, only perfect practice makes for a polished presentation and I can show how to achieve that.  Practicing should also be balanced between working on lesson material and relaxed fun and exploration time at the piano.

My approach is to teach each student according to their desired goals, backgrounds, and abilities rather than have a set methodology.  I like a balanced curriculum of repertory, technique, and musicality combined with performance experience in recitals with other students.  Although I have taught advanced college level piano, teaching young beginners is where I take special care.  In Europe and Russia the highest paid teachers are those who teach beginners, because of the importance of developing good habits early.

I have 35 years of experience performing professionally and privately along with teaching advanced piano at the college level.  Lessons can be at my studio in North Sarasota on my Steinway 6’11” grand or I can arrange to come to your home in North Sarasota or Lakewood Ranch, personally or via internet.
